Fantasy NASCAR Leagues

November 4th, 2010

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to be a NASCAR team owner or team leader? This is what the Fantasy NASCAR League permits you to experience. Several other sports offer fantasy leagues, and in fact the Fantasy NASCAR League was based on the original fantasy league, the Soccer Fantasy League, but for lovers of car racing, it is the top one.

If you do not know how the Fantasy NASCAR League works, it is pretty simple to explain. People who register in the league become team owners, and they have to pick a racing team from the selection of real human drivers on the NASCAR circuit. These drivers then win points for the team, exactly as they do in real life.

This means that when one of your team members is taking part in a real race, say at Pocono, you can cheer him on in the hope that he will add points to your team’s total. This makes it quite realistic, except that you do not have to foot the millions of dollars it would normally cost to own such a team and run it.

The Fantasy NASCAR League teams’ points totals are then held centrally and prizes are awarded at fixed intervals: monthly, quarterly, etc.. Some Fantasy NASCAR Leagues award prizes of gear or equipment others award prizes of money. Some charge to become a member, others do not.

The Fantasy NASCAR League began life in the Eighties after the success of the Fantasy Soccer League proved that the idea could work, but it did not really take off until ten years later when the league became more available to more people over the Internet. Fantasy leagues based on Formula One and Indy soon followed.

There are in fact quite a few Fantasy NASCAR Leagues and the rules vary slightly from league to league, although on the whole they all stick to the points bestowed by NASCAR. However, there are often idiosyncratic rules to avoid ties such as limiting the number of times a driver’s results can be allowed for a fantasy team depending on the popularity of that driver within that fantasy league.

There are all sorts of Fantasy NASCAR Leagues, some even include motorcycle races in the list of races that a team owner has to predict, while other leagues place importance on such criteria as fastest lap time, average lap time or total time spent in first place. Sometimes these extra regulations are more important with Fantasy NASCAR Leagues that base their results on fewer races

There is of course an official NASCAR Fantasy NASCAR League, which is accessible at its website. In this league team owners get a hundred million dollars to assemble a team and the league is based on weekly results.

It also costs real money to play. However, you may think it a small price to pay to be embroiled with the sport you love at the official Fantasy NASCAR League level. For more details about the official Fantasy NASCAR League, please go over to their website.

How Razz Poker Is Played

November 2nd, 2010

As is often the case, when a game is featured in the World Series of Poker it is apt to gain a following, as is the case with Razz. It also doesn’t hurt its popularity when the game offers some peculiar and challenging features The nuts and bolts of Razz are that it is an ace low stud poker game with the objective of compiling the lowest possible hand of an unsuited ace through five. It is one of the games making up HORSE poker, a mixed play variant, and can be overwhelming for folks new at the game. The purpose of this basic Razz primer is to inform you of the game’s play structure and some strategies to help you become a respected and feared competitor.

How Razz Poker is Played

Razz is structured like low-hand seven card stud as mentioned above and up to eight players play the game in a limit-bet format. A game commences with each player receiving three cards, two of them face up and one face down, after which comes the first betting round let by the player with the highest face up card. In case of a tie for highest card, the tie goes to the suit. Another round with the deal of a face-up card and the lowest hand starts off the betting round. The rounds go on until each player is dealt their fifth card whereupon the bets double in size. The final card is dealt face down and the next round is led by the player who began the sixth round. If this player folded prior to the round, then the second player in the sixth round begins and so on.

The Best Razz Strategy

Even if you do not hold the best possible starting hand of an unsuited ace, two, three, if you have a low hand with single cards only below ten, sound strategy dictates that you go on to the next round. If you are holding a hand with any unpaired cards under seven, you have a potential winner and should go for aggressive play if your opponents aren’t showing much. If your hand is seven high and the table is showing the lowest card of ten, you should feel encouraged and go ahead and value bet.

All players must closely observe the visible cards and recalculate their odds of obtaining a pair (a bad thing) or single cards (a good thing). It is not unusual for a player to take advantage of his table position to form a betting strategy when opponents are showing lower cards. A good strategy here would be to value bet even if you are drawing into the fourth round because you have a strong starting hand plus you may be drawing into an even lower one. The other players may be also drawing into lower hands and placing some profound bets, enhancing the pot for you.

With the understanding that Razz demands a thorough knowledge of its tactics and strategies, you will also know when to cut your losses and fold. You are most probably vying against players with a lower starting hand, so don’t hold out hopes of drawing to a low one yourself. Then again, if you are in the catbird position at the table, you can use that to get your opponents to enhance the value of the pot before they fold their marginal hands and give that rich pot to you.

NFL Has No Problem With Cowboys’ Video Screen

November 1st, 2010

The Dallas Cowboys are settling into their new $1.15 billion dollar home stadium, but much of the talk in the NFL preseason has been about the massive video screen hanging directly over the field of play. There’s been a bit of a controversy about the height of the video screen, with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones rebuffing suggestions that the board was hung too low.

On Friday, the NFL Rules Committee sided with Cowboys owner Jones, indicating that the board was of adequate height. It also clarified the procedure for kicks that hit the board during play, and will revisit the issue in the off-season based on what happens during the 2009 campaign.

Jones has maintained that much of the concern is due to the sheer size of the board, which was hung 90 feet off the field of play”5 feet higher than NFL mandated guidelines. Hes also suggested that Tennessee punters were intentionally trying to hit the board, requiring an effort to kick the ball almost straight up.

The NFL has ruled that if a ball hit the display during play, the clock will be reset and down will be replayed. The replay official and the coaches will be able to challenge a play involving the video screen.

In a statement announcing the rules interpretation, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell commented on the situation:

“We will continue to address the particular circumstances in Dallas, giving full consideration to the competitive, safety and fan experience issues involved. The Cowboys have been fully cooperative as we have addressed this subject, and we will continue to work closely with the club on a longer term resolution.”

On his weekly radio show, Cowboys owner Jones commented on the NFLs ruling:

“I don’t see it as ultimately an issue. You can anticipate the ball hitting the board from time to time. There’s no reason why this can’t be something for punters to deal with very similar to the way you’d deal with the wind in your face or with elements; rain, sleet or snow.”

Former Cowboys coach Jimmie Johnson also weighed in on the video board issue:

“If there’s anything wrong, it’s that people are going to watch the video board and not the game. It is so dominating, but I think it’s so cool. I think it’s great.”

The Cowboys play their final preseason game at the new stadium this Saturday as they host the San Francisco 49ers. Dallas will make their regular season debut at the venue on Sunday, September 20th as the New York Giants provide the opposition.

An In Depth Look At Minted Poker

October 29th, 2010

Minted Poker is part of the Everleaf gaming network but the feel and the layout of the software more closely resembles Full Tilt Poker. The company partners with Send My Chips and is rapidly growing. The software is in tones of gold and invites you in with the charm of rake races among other strong features on the site. Come on in and see what you can find at Minted Poker.

The software is not very different from its sister sites on the Everleaf Network. Minted Poker puts together an interface which will be very familiar with some extra sizzle to set it apart. There is a moving ticker and nifty announcement area in the upper right corner to keep players apprised of the latest poker news, free rolls and other contests and promotional goodies currently on the site. Minted Poker offers its players a buddy list and other features not readily found on other sites. The players enjoy the highly functional software with a comfortable feel along with, of course, the selection of exhilarating cash games and tournaments.

It’s a small community at Minted Poker with only around 100 tables and five hundred players, but it is a pleasant one. Stakes begin at $.05/.10 and rise to $40/80 for some rewarding play especially with the right congenial group. The games offered are Hold em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo and seven card stud and more are in the developmental phase. You will find an abundance of tournaments, sit-n-gos and step tourneys from which to make a selection. Tournament buy-ins range from one thin dime and rise dramatically to $1,200 so there truly is something for everyone in search of a tournament. Minted Poker treats its customers like royalty with much more than freerolls and raises the bar on customer service.

A really super contest is the million dollar ladder giving players the unusual opportunity to hit the big time.
